The St. Francis Xavier Parish Council epitomizes the goal of meaningful
participation by the laity in the important affairs of the parish. The Parish
Council sets the mission and goal for the parish. It is the coordinating and
unifying body of the parish. Major decisions affecting the parish are brought to
the Parish Council.
The Parish Council consists of parishioners willing to serve the
parish by volunteering to run for office or by accepting a nomination for
appointment. Twelve Council members serve three-year terms. Elections are held
every year to fill the vacancies occurring when the three-year terms of four of
the Council members expire.
Parish Council meetings are generally held the second Tuesday of
each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish meeting room.
The Council has four Commissions which set objectives and
oversee their specific area of parish life. The Commissions are Christian
Education, Administrative, Worship
and Spiritual Development, Social
Concerns.

The Christian Education Commission provides quality Christian
education experiences for our youth ages 3-18. They make sure selection of
coordinators for pre-school Sunday School are obtained. They also monitor the
progress of the "School of Religion" classes and assist with
Confirmation preparation. They also are developing an Adult Education program
for renewal and to learn more about their faith.
The Administrative Commission oversees the parish physical
plant, finance, membership, personnel resources and future needs of the parish.
Since the Commission has such broad based duties, it has formed several
Committees to assist. This includes a Property Committee who takes care of the
central parish buildings and grounds. In addition there is a Cemetery Committee
who oversees the care of keeping the two cemeteries attractive. We also have a
Long Range Planning Committee who tries to plan for future growth. And, finally,
we have a Finance Committee who pay the parish bills, plans the parish budget
and schedules the parish activities as far as finances are concerned. It also
maintains an updated membership roster.
The Worship and Spiritual Development Commission coordinates the
activities of the parish that fosters the spiritual growth of the parish. This
Commission assists with planning the liturgy for all weekend and special
occasions services. They are responsible for all liturgical volunteers who
assist with the liturgy.
The Social Concerns Commission welcomes newcomers to the Parish.
They also offer assistance to Senior Citizens by sponsoring Health and Healing
session each Fall. They are also becoming more involved in funeral preparation
and bereavement and assist with All Souls day services. They also maintain an
active picnic and fall supper committee with Social Concerns members and other
parish members.
