Meeting Minutes
January 11, 2003
The January meeting of the Missouri Reining Horse Association was held at the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine Dean’s Office.
President Phyllis Ward called the meeting to order.
The minutes from the November meeting were unavailable. President Phyllis Ward read from her notes. The November meeting minutes will be presented at the February meeting.
Old Business:
Treasurer’s Report:
Lisa Davis reported the MRHA checking account had a balance of $5,200.24 and the certificate of deposit had a balance of $2,920.72 for a total of $8,120.96. Postage for the Autumn Slide, plates for the trophy’s, $14.80 postage to Phyllis, and $30.81 for postage and copying of the newsletter have been paid. Lisa indicated that membership checks have started to trickle in.
Stallion Auction:
Richard Williams reported on the Stallion Auction. It was reported that one horse/rider received the all of the money for this year’s stallion auction.
Contracts were sent out to everyone from last year. At this time, six breedings have been donated. Gwyn Haskins will place an add in the Reiner magazine advertising this years stallions as well as last year’s winner.
MRHA Web Site:
Bob Sappington reported that no new progress has been made regarding an MRHA web site and that existing time commitments prohibit working on this project.
New Business:
Autumn Slide:
Denise Holliman reported that three judges have been contacted and agreed to judge the Autumn Slide. These judges are Kristi Rose, Marlin Holroyd, and Ronnie Wayne. The Judges agreed on a fee of $450/day. Discussion pursued as to whether or not to pay a $30/day per diem or to reimburse for actual expenses.
Bryan Dygert left a message on Phyllis Ward’s answering machine indicating that the Illinois Reining Horse Association has not found new dates for their show.
Circuit News:
Arkansas and SWMRHA will have their own circuit this year.
Discussion followed regarding MRHA and KRHA having a circuit. Denise Holliman indicated that a Circuit application may have been received by NRHA.
Working Cow Horse:
MRHA member Deanna Cooper presented a proposal to include a Working Cow Horse event with an MRHA event. Discussion took place regarding the possibility of this event taking place on a Saturday evening after the conclusion of classes at the Wild Slide. SWMRHA conducted a similar event last year at a Nixa show. Insurance and staffing issues were discussed. A working cow horse event might help increase the number of entries for the MRHA show.
MO Department of Agriculture:
The Missouri Department of Agriculture sent Phyllis Ward a thank you letter for it’s support on the study it conducted on the economic impact of the Equine industry in the state of Missouri.
MRHA Clinic:
The possibility of having Craig Johnson put on a reining clinic was discussed. Craig has put on clinics for us in the past and has indicated that he would be receptive to this. The dates of March 8th and 9th were mentioned as a possibility. This would avoid conflict with the NRHA Derby.
Fun Show:
The date for the fun show is April 27th. A discussion followed about the possibility of Brent Wright conducting a clinic on the 26th since he typically attends our fun show.
Rookie Day:
The possibility of MRHA having another Rookie Day was discussed. Fred Bershauer was discussed as a possibility. March 8th and 9th and May 17th and 18th were discussed as possible dates.
Monthly Meeting Dates:
February 8th, March 8th and April 26th were set as meeting dates. The February and March meeting will be at the UMC Vet. Med. Deans office and will start at 7:00pm.
The location and time of the April meeting will be announced. It might possibly be held in conjunction with a fun show or clinic.
Wild Slide Dates:
June 7th and 8th are the dates for the Wild Slide.
John Balko, Affiliate representative:
A letter from John Balko was read which introduced John along with an offer to assist NRHA affiliates however possible. Phyllis indicated that she would send John copies of information regarding the Autumn Slide and show dates.
Central Affiliate Finals:
John Coats indicated that he felt MRHA should reapply for the Affiliate Finals in 2004.
Autumn Slide:
It was decided to reduce the Open and Non Pro added money to $1500, $750 and $500.
