He married Elizabeth Trammel. Elizabeth was born 1 Aug 1815. Elizabeth died 26 June 1884 in Winfield, TN, at 68 years of age. Her body was interred June 1884 at New Light Cemetery in Winfield, TN.

Richard Chitwood and Elizabeth Trammel had the following child:
