This Page will be dedicated to my father. He found out in the last part of February 2003 that he had Prostate cancer. He went in for his yearly Prostate checkup and some of the biopsies came back that he had cancer cells in his Prostate.

If you or your family has never had to deal with cancer ( And I hope that you never have to ) it can be a very nerve racking experience. You talk to people that have had cancer and hear their horror stories and start to expect the worst and pray for the best.

In June of 2003, after much studying of Prostate cancer and talking to the different doctors about the multiple different treatment options that are available now, my father decided to go with the option to have surgery and just have it removed. That at the time was the only 100 % way to remove all the cancer.

There are at this time that we know of 5 ways to handle the Prostate cancer.

1. Surgery = They remove it completely.

2. Internal Radiation or Seeds = They plant radiation seeds into the prostate with needles and it kills the cancer cells.

3. External Radiation = This is the one most people are familiar with. They place you on a table and emit a confined     radiation beam at the affected area.

4. Cryogenic Freezing = They completely freeze you Prostate solid with liquid nitrogen twice within a month and the theory is that it kills the tissue in the prostate and it also kills the cancer cells because they have no living tissue to survive in and the body absorbs the prostate afterwards.

5. Liquid Castration = It is a shot that you receive by-monthly and causes you to quit making testosterone and in theory also if you quit making testosterone the cancer cells die.

On June 20th 2003 my father went in for a total prostate removal. He came out of surgery five hours later and was taken to his room after time in the recovery room. After five days in the hospital he was allowed to come home although weak he was very happy to return home.

After three weeks when he went back to his doctor to have his staples and catheter remove he got the results of the biopsies that were done on the removed prostate, limp nodes, and vessels taken during surgery. We were relieved to find out that the cancer had never breached the lining of the prostate and was totally confined in it. The vessels, and limp nodes showed no signs either. He had caught it in time and did not even have to take radiation treatments after or anything.

He is home and doing fine and wanting to get back to his farm work and chores but the doctor has him on light duty until middle august of the first of September.

Below you will find some links to some different sites that have information about the different kinds of cancers and some of the treatment options available. I hope that you will find this page helpful and if I can help you research or find any information that you would be interested in just contact me.
